Christy & Kevin | A Virginia Tech Wedding
Well hi again, everyone!
Let’s give it up for one special couple, who just so happen to be newlyweds. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Wood!
I absolutely loved photographing Christy & Kevin’s wedding on October 17th at the War Memorial Chapel (Virginia Tech campus) and Pete Dye Rivercourse (Radford, Virginia).
Christy and Kevin met in January, 2010 at Virginia Tech during their senior years through mutual friends. Christy’s sophomore roommate was dating Kevin’s future roommate at the time. When Kevin needed a date to his senior Military Ball, he turned to Chris, who turned to Carly, who introduced Kevin to Christy during a Virginia Tech vs Boston College basketball game to get to know each other before the dance. They hit it off, and began officially dating on February 5th, 2010 after a day of shoveling cars out of “the cage” parking lot and a few snowball fights. You may think that February of senior year isn’t the best time to meet someone you’d like to keep in touch with, and you’d be right. They’ve stuck it out through veterinary school, flight training, three graduations, and Christy and Kevin will have been through over 5 years of long distance by the time they get married. Although they spent over 4 years in “Columbus,” their Ohio and Mississippi Columbus homes were separated by over 600 miles. Christy and Kevin are excited to start their lives together in the same zip code!
Their wedding day was incredible. Kevin is a pilot and there were so many little details that showed this is off. He wore wing cufflinks, they posed with flying arms, their first dance was “Come Fly with Me” by Frank Sinatra and they even “flew” in their dance. How perfect!
Now those details I just mentioned were just about Kevin. Let’s talk about Christy for a minute! She is a veterinarian and had a special love for a horse she worked with and showed at Virginia Tech. Kevin arranged a surprise and after the ceremony we took a trip to the horse barn and Christy got to see her boy! We took some time to capture this special moment for Christy too! How wonderful that both were able to bring so much of themselves into their special day.
This amazing day would not have been possible without the help from:
Cake Maker: Nancy Creed – The Orange Bandana
DJ: John Roling
Where Dress was Purchased: Bravura – Atlanta, GA
Caterer: Preston’s at the River
In planning their wedding, Christy said that “there were definitely fun parts when things were coming together nicely, but it was decently stressful planning all the logistics/budget/guest list/etc with my vendors and venues, bridesmaids, and family so far away.”
I also asked Christy if she had any photography-related advice to offer to a couple and she shared, “I found mine through pinterest. I searched for photographers who had already taken pictures in my ceremony/reception locations, and who had the pictures that I liked the best. I saw some old friends in her albums and contacted them for reviews – they were great! I was so glad she was willing to look through my own pinterest page and was very prompt to reply to emails. A professional contract is a must so everyone knows we’re on the same page.”
I wish Christy and Kevin many more years of love and happiness!!
