Hardworking, compassionate, and optimistic are the three words that Laura uses to describe herself. Determined is another one that suits her! She is determined to be successful at anything she does and it shows! She is incredibly successful and she’s only a senior!!
Laura is a senior at Blacksburg High School. She is a member of the BHS swim team. She is the team captain this year! Laura is also a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, the secretary for the Interact Club, and the treasurer for A Better Community Club. She also enjoys volunteering as a swim coach for the Shawnee Sharks Summer League swim team. What a list!
Many years ago when Laura was a 7th grader I had the wonderful opportunity to teach her. She was such a sweet student and so much fun to have in my classroom! I reminded her during our session together that she was in one of my most favorite classes ever! There are certain groups of kids that just make your heart smile. Laura is one of those kinds of kids! It doesn’t hurt that she told me her favorite subjects are math and science :). I told you she’s AWESOME!!
While I have listed many of Laura’s accomplishments, I have not told you yet about swimming! This is Laura’s real passion and where her dedication and hardworking nature come out. Swimming takes up most of Laura’s time. She has been on the H2Okies Aquatics Swim Team since she was seven years old. She practices around 17 hours a week. She has double practices every day during the school week. Her days begin at 4:45am when she wakes up for her morning practice, goes to school, and then has another practice in the afternoons. That is commitment.
While swimming certainly takes the majority of her time, she does find time to be a normal high school student. She enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, take naps, traveling, and reading. Well rounded! Her favorite TV shows are Dance Moms and Grey’s Anatomy.
Laura has not yet decided on a college for next year but she is considering Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, and George Mason University. She wants to major in Biomedical Engineering. Laura still plans on swimming in college, whether it be swimming for the college or on the club swim team.
I am so excited to share these photos with you. Laura is a very special young woman with great character, intelligence, and talent. I love that she is in my world :).
