What?? Sarah Jane is a senior!!!
I have to confess. I was excited about this session from the moment it was booked! Sarah Jane is one of my former students and I adore her! She was the sweetest 7th grader and so much fun to have in class. Now she is a grown up high school senior!!! What?? How does that happen so fast??!!!
Sarah Jane hasn’t changed that much. Well, of course she has grown up in this beautiful young woman and is about to embark upon the world (and world you are lucky!), but she still has those wonderful qualities that I remembered. She is kind. She is smart. She is thoughtful. Sarah Jane is one awesome young woman.
Sarah Jane to told me three words that she would use to describe herself. She chose, “colorful, funny, and trustworthy.” I thought about the words she chose and I have to say that they are really a great representation of human that this world needs. Colorful… bright and lively! Funny… humor and joy! Trustworthy… reliable and safe! Wow. That’s exactly the type of human I am happy to have this world!
While academics are always a priority, Sarah Jane is involved in many extracurricular activities as well. She is very active in the theatre productions at Blacksburg High School. She is even the Treasurer of the school’s thespian troupe! She is also the Senior Class Secretary and planned the junior prom last year! In addition to those fun activities, she has managed to maintain awesome grades and is a member of the National Honors Society and the Spanish National Honors Society! Wow! What a kid and what a set of accomplishments!
English, Spanish, and History are Sarah Jane’s favorite subjects to study. While I am a little sad she didn’t say “mathematics,” I have to give her props for having such a passion for linguistics! She told me all about her plans and how she loves the idea of studying archeology and linguistics. We had a great conversation about learning so much about a culture through the history of their language. So cool! (Okay, I was able to forgive her lack of passion for math… ha!)
When Sarah Jane is not studying and keeping up with those amazing grades, she enjoys reading, spending time with friends, playing sports, and, well, being 17. Good for her! She even took a trip this summer to the Galapagos Islands!!!!
Hozier and Iron and Wine are a couple of Sarah Jane’s favorite bands. She loves to watch The Office and told me she “has a strange obsession with World War II books and movies”. What a neat kid!
